A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He saved four initial break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
